How Designer Handbags Are Made

A lot of the time there are massive price differences between high street branded handbags and designer bags. Many people wonder if there is a good reason for this huge difference in prices. Most often higher end materials are used and many designer bags are crafted from hand as appose to regular high street bags, which are made on assembly line. This article goes into details on how designer handbags are made and what makes them so expensive.

The first step involved is the designer, who will use drawings of their ideas to create a paper model and an unofficial pattern to be used to make the bag. The designer will put together the style, colour choices and fabrics. Once all these are selected the pieces are precisely cut and prepared for stitching. Each piece must be put together perfectly to ensure that the design is perfect. Once the design mock up is complete it is ready to be manufactured.

The next point to be aware of is that 99% of all designer handbags are manufactured in second and third world countries such as China, Mexico, and Taiwan. Just about every designer who sells designer handbags in Western countries such as the USA and UK manufacture their bags in other countries. Even for companies that don’t manufacture their bags, they source their raw materials to produce the bags from these countries. Most designer companies realise that in order to make a good profit on bags they need to produce the bags at a cheaper and more affordable price.

All the factories that produce the designer bags work with a grading system. Depending on which factory it is there are AAA, AA, A, and even less quality controlled bags. Designer bags work with the AAA specifications to make sure they are exactly as the designer has specified. When a factory goes into production they will use the original design and reproduce it under strict control with the correct materials, threads, and sewing as the designer has specified.

Representatives from each design company travel to countries such as China to supervise the process of manufacturing and when it’s complete the products are shipped to USA or Europe for sale. The entire process is simple and produces jobs for a global economy.

The final step of the designer bag is putting the final touches, and then the handbag is ready for inspection. Each bag is inspected by hand for any defects and then is ready to be shipped. Each bag is individually wrapped in a designer cloth bag and shipped to the boutique or company office ready for sale.

The majority of buyers of designer bags are unaware of the manufacturing process and don’t understand the details. They assume that if the bag says ‘Made in China’, then the handbag may be considered a fake, when in fact that is not true. In fact the designer bag is very reasonably priced. If the designers were to purchase all the materials within Europe or the USA and then get them produced there also they would be paying thousands of pounds per bag.
